    Many blockages in internal and external pipe work are organic in nature such as hair and fat and can therefore be dissolved through the use of various chemicals. These chemicals however are very dangerous if you get them on your skin and they are hardly good for the environment.

    Chemicals should therefore be used very carefully and only if other methods have failed such as using boiling water, the plunger or everyone&rsquos favorite the wire coat hanger. Whatever you do do not put down chemicals and then use the plunger, this will splash the chemicals back onto you.

    If you cannot clear a drain call the plumber, and if you have used chemicals make sure that they know so that they can take steps to protect themselves also. It is far better to avoid using chemicals and to use the services of a skilled plumber instead as it is far safer.
